If you have a smartphone you will be aware of the amazing capability this tiny device has. Our small phones are very intelligent and store an enormous amount of information and data, they are therefore very precious and need to be kept safe and secure. Many more of us are now using public wifi to check out mail and surf the web whilst we are out and about but we need to be sure that we are doing so safely and securely.
I have used public wifi very happily but I recently had a conversation with a friend who was not so fortunate, their phone was hacked and it made me think again about ensuring my phone was as protected as it could be. This post is not designed to scare but rather to inform and educate.
Firstly there are certain precautions you can take with your phone which are outlined in this post by Vikram, some practical helpful tips that you can immediately apply. You also need to think about how you use public wifi and this post by Riva Richmond will give you good guidance in this area. I also like this simple and clear guide from the Australian Government.
I would really suggest you think about this before something happens and if you need to take steps to tighten up your security do it sooner rather than later.
